The Atlantic hurricane season officially begins on June 1, but there have been pre-season storms each of the past seven years. The 2022 hurricane season is predicted to be more active than usual and calls for 21 named storms, 10 hurricanes and six major hurricanes. This forecast is above the average of 14 named storms, seven hurricanes, and three major hurricanes.
From June through November, businesses – even those not on a coastline – have hurricane risks on their radars. Winds 74 mph or greater can cause massive damage, and storms and tornadoes spawned from hurricanes can continue the damage inland. That’s why businesses need to prepare for a hurricane before it hits.
Most property policies specifically exclude flood as a covered cause of loss. It is important that you have a flood policy in place for both your home and your business in order to safeguard your financial investments. Almost 40% of small businesses never reopen their doors after a flood disaster. Protect yourself and your business, do not delay. It takes approximately 30 days from the date of purchase for a flood policy to go into effect.
In addition, if Windstorm coverage is not covered on your property policy, please contact us to discuss your options to add it or obtain a separate Wind policy.
